Turning Point Clouds
into accurate 3D Models
Project
Overview
DCMS conducted a high-precision 3D laser scan of key tunnel sections within a major underground mining operation in La Libertad, Peru.
The objective was to document existing spatial conditions for structural evaluation, ventilation upgrades, and safety system optimization. The deliverables served engineering, operations, and long-term infrastructure management teams.
Deliverables
-
High-Density Point Cloud Data – For detailed structural analysis and safety evaluations
-
Georeferenced Orthophotos – For planning ventilation, utilities, and access routes
-
Virtual Matterport Walkthrough – Allowing remote site assessment in hazardous environments
Our Role & Technology
DCMS utilized terrestrial laser scanning and advanced geospatial technology to create a complete digital record of the tunnel network. Our deliverables helped identify deformation risks, optimize airflow systems, and assist future engineering interventions.}
-
Tools Used: Leica RTC360, AutoCAD, Matterport Pro3
Key Challenges
& Solutions
-
Low-visibility underground conditions: LiDAR captured precise geometry in confined spaces.
-
Safety and access limitations: All data was collected quickly with minimal crew exposure.
-
Future-proofing assets: The digital twin supports long-term planning and mine expansion studies.
